Position:    Plumbing Engineer

Brief Task Description:

As a Plumbing Engineer, this person is responsible for the layout, design and coordination for assigned projects. The size of Company projects range from solo projects to projects requiring multi-member design teams. S/he reports directly to the Plumbing/Piping Engineering Manager.

A Plumbing Engineer possessing the listed knowledge, skills and abilities is accountable for the following:

  • Know and stay current on codes, industry practices and state-of-the-art technologies
  • Learn and understand the present MacDonald-Miller engineering system including standards, methods, forms and computer programs
  • Prepare calculations for equipment sizing
  • Select plumbing fixtures and equipment
  • Complete final working drawings which may include CAD or manual drafting
  • Coordinate plumbing design with the architect, structural engineer and other subcontractors
  • Work with field personnel in resolving installation problems that may arise

Brief Task Description:

The Account Manager is expected to be proficient in the HVAC services industry and customer service. This person is expected to meet performance standards set by the Vice President - Service Business Development and by the immediate supervisor. Our Service Department typically handles projects that require ongoing HVAC maintenance contracts or quick turn around tenant improvements. The Account Manager is expected to be a professional self-starter and able to develop a dependable sales track record. S/he is responsible for maintaining regular contact with customers, building owners and co-workers to ensure a quality product. Account Manager may be given a vehicle allowance, mobile phone and reimbursed for all reasonable business expenses.

The Account Manager is accountable for the following:

  • Identify, sell, and negotiate HVAC retrofit and tenant improvement projects
  • Prepare and present effective sales proposals to new and existing customers that develop profitable results
  • Meet and exceed sales goals and profit margins
  • Develop new clients through networking and seeking referrals from current clients
  • Document and follow up on leads and referrals
  • Public relations: resolve complaints and problems; provide information and advice
  • Form in-depth partnerships with our customers and anticipate their needs
  • Act in "responsible charge" role with clients and coworkers
  • Confer with staff and customers on all phases of projects
  • Review and evaluate contract compliance
  • Help direct field technicians or other co-workers on projects
  • Keep management abreast of market conditions and trends affecting industry

Brief Task Description:

A Controls Technician reports to the Controls Technician - Lead. He/she is expected to test, repair, and commission a variety of control system components. He/she is also expected to meet performance standards set by management and to comply with all company policies and procedures. A Controls Technician performs the following:

  • Test all equipment and control functions of controls provided, installed or designated by MacDonald-Miller Controls
  • Set up and install all communication devices for remote operations PC's, modems for standard phone or short haul, repeaters, etc.
  • Identify, research, prepare and present solutions to problems
  • Document and follow-up problems relating to controls
  • Develop and write the necessary software to provide all features agreed to within scope or specification
  • Provide all written documentation for indication of proper testing on all projects
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to personnel concerning project status and concerns
  • Assist Commissioning Technicians to verify that their testing of control systems is done correctly and efficiently completed
  • Effectively work with all areas of HVAC including design, production, refrigeration, controls and service
  • Be proficient in all areas of HVAC controls including pneumatic, electronic, energy management systems, and computerized control systems
  • Ensure all pertinent data regarding as-built or record drawing sketches, software & programming and any changes are returned to the Engineering Division of MacDonald-Miller Controls
  • Review engineering with supervisor and application engineer before and after project is complete to improve quality
  • Provide customer training
  • Maintain current software databases
  • Research, prepare and present solutions to problems

Brief Task Description:

The Commercial HVAC Service Journey Level Technician performs the following:

  • Maintenance, filter changes, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair on commercial package gas and electronic heat pumps, air conditioners, hydronic systems, boilers, controls and associated components
  • Become familiar with constant volume and VAV systems, process of control wiring, refrigeration line piping, replacing compressors, etc.
  • Consult with customers regarding problems or issues discovered while servicing their heating/air conditioning system and provide them with a written record of services performed
  • Work closely with the service coordinators and their foreperson to make sure that customers' needs are being fulfilled to their expectations and in a timely manner

  • Plan and schedule personnel for the project
  • Prepare cost control and expense reports
  • Schedule and track job progress
  • Review design drawings and estimate and negotiate change orders

  • Monitor labor and material costs for accuracy through the job cost tracking system
