Brief Task Description
A Controls Technician reports to the Controls Technician - Lead. He/she is expected to test, repair, and commission a variety of control system components. He/she is also expected to meet performance standards set by management and to comply with all company policies and procedures. A Controls Technician performs the following:
- Test all equipment and control functions of controls provided, installed or designated by MacDonald-Miller Controls
- Set up and install all communication devices for remote operations PC's, modems for standard phone or short haul, repeaters, etc.
- Identify, research, prepare and present solutions to problems
- Document and follow-up problems relating to controls
- Develop and write the necessary software to provide all features agreed to within scope or specification
- Provide all written documentation for indication of proper testing on all projects
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to personnel concerning project status and concerns
- Assist Commissioning Technicians to verify that their testing of control systems is done correctly and efficiently completed
- Effectively work with all areas of HVAC including design, production, refrigeration, controls and service
- Be proficient in all areas of HVAC controls including pneumatic, electronic, energy management systems, and computerized control systems
- Ensure all pertinent data regarding as-built or record drawing sketches, software & programming and any changes are returned to the Engineering Division of MacDonald-Miller Controls
- Review engineering with supervisor and application engineer before and after project is complete to improve quality
- Provide customer training
- Maintain current software databases
- Research, prepare and present solutions to problems
- Actively participate in the MacDonald-Miller sponsored Education and Training Program
- Understand, accept and support MacDonald-Miller's Operating Guidelines, Operational Beliefs and Customer Commitment
- Perform additional tasks as assigned

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
The candidate must possess and be adaptable to the following physical abilities and working conditions:
- Ability to frequently lift or carry 20 to 50 pounds
- Ability to see and hear well (either naturally or with correction) and speak clearly
- Physical requirements included: Standing, bending, squatting, sitting, kneeling, lying down, crawling, climbing and driving
- Typical working conditions include: working on ladders, on rooftops, in crawl spaces, in unheated areas and in all weather conditions
- Must be capable of working ten to twelve hour days when job/business needs demands
Qualification Requirements
- Possess a two-year degree or other education by which a reasonable understanding of HVAC control systems with an emphasis on direct digital controls and computerized control systems has been gained
- An understanding of air conditioning principles and commercial HVAC mechanical equipment is preferred
- Possess strong computer aptitude including hardware and software
- Ability to effectively interact with customers, technicians, sales and office staff
- Strong written and verbal and listening communications skills
- Self-motivation
- Takes pride in ones work and excepts responsibility for his/her professionalism and accuracy
- Ability to consistently set goals and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently or in a team atmosphere
- Project a positive image of the company and herself/himself to customers
- Competent in WISHA/OSHA job site safety requirement
- A valid license and clean driving record are required
- Have an excellent attendance record at prior employment
- A candidate is required to pass a pre-hire drug screening and physical examination (after job offer)
